J Parnell Thomas chair of the House Un American Activities Committee was indicted for conspiring to pad his congressional payroll. His former secretary Helen Campbell and others faced charges of fictitious employees and illicit transfers through Campbell to Thomas. The case covers 1940 to 1945 with potential penalties up to 32 years imprisonment and 40,000 dollars in fines.

Convict War Bride Convicted of Manslaughter in Naval Husband Death

Jean McAllister 21 was convicted of manslaughter in the pistol attack that killed her naval veteran husband Joby McAllister 29 of Hamilton. An assize court jury acquitted her of murder and urged mercy. Justice Treleaven remanded her for sentence on November 10.

Montana supreme court strikes down margarine tax

Montana's Supreme Court ruled the state's margarine law unconstitutional in a 4 to 1 decision. Chief Justice Hugh Adair stated annual license fees of 2009 for wholesale and 400 for retail margarine dealers unlawfully interfered with lawful business and violated the fundamental law.
