Nine months of investigations into importation of forty thousand dollars worth of black market clothing into Vancouver from eastern Canada ended in police court with two city firms fined a total of one thousand dollars. Arnold and Quigley Ltd pleaded guilty to charges connected with possession of untagged men’s clothing valued at ninety four thousand dollars and received a seven hundred fifty dollar fine. Quigley, secretary of the firm, was given a suspended sentence on two additional charges conspiracy and failures to keep books. More Sennett, manager of Parke Fashion Clothes, was fined two hundred fifty dollars. Magistrate McInnes called him the “undoubtedly father of this whole business.” Crown counsel Dugald Donaghy brought the case, with the seized cargo displayed beside the court.
