On the island town Bow Island this month a third major fire struck three north side Main Street buildings damaging shops and property. Fire officials caution a suspect fire bug may be at work as losses run from 25 000 to 50 000 with some coverage by insurance. A correspondent reports the blaze began Sunday morning of unknown origin and destroyed buildings and equipment.
Jamil Mardam Bey, acting premier of Syria, reports French troops fired on Hama on the road to Aleppo, with fighting erupting in streets as French garrisons are reinforced. He warns the crisis could widen into a general clash as communications fail and tensions rise in Damascus and Homs after French incursions.
Bow Island Mayor F W Brown asked the provincial fire commissioner to investigate three mysterious fires that struck the town within a month. He thanked Medicine Hat Fire Department and named Ald W W Oliver Fire Chief Hatcher Captain R Allen and foremen W Collins L Morrig G Murphy and C Miller for valuable assistance. He cited Sunday's blaze as prompting the inquiry.
The blaze leveled Hahn's Grocery store with stock, owned by Charles Carlson. Barkman's pool hall lost structure but equipment was saved. The Masonic Hall and school hall suffered damage yet remained standing with records saved. The Municipal building near the fire was scorched but intact. Fire officials continue the report on page three.
Scores of secret arms and explosives dumps in the forests and mountains of Bavaria and Bohemia were uncovered by Allied Intelligence officers. The caches are said to be intended for Nazi werewolves in an underground war of death and sabotage.

They reported any country could bring a dispute before the proposed world security council for discussion without a single major power veto. Final language was sent to London Moscow Chungking and Paris for approval with unanimity on positive action expected to be required among the Big Five.
Ottawa announces removal of the 35 mile limit on truck operation and loosening of many wholesale and retail delivery restrictions. Gasoline rationing for trucks continues, while transit controls and permits for milk cream reflections and other limits are relaxed in coming days.
London dispatch reports the liner Queen Elizabeth escaped a April 44 wave that crashed over her bows as she sailed two days from New York. Five decks were battered, iron stanchions bent, yet the vessel rode the wall of water and sustained only minor bruises with no serious injuries.
May 2 Reuters reports no response yet from the Spanish government to Jacques Drucile the French representative regarding the request to hand over Terre Laval. The stalled diplomatic exchange follows Friday’s representation seeking action on the dispute.
Manila reports on Okinawa indicating possible Japanese withdrawal or retreat as US forces press the Shuri line. Allied patrols push toward Chan south of Shuri while cave demolitions and stockpiles are described along the east flank near Yonabaru.

As more high ranking Germans fall into Allied hands, SHAEF announced. Field Marshal Robert Ritter von Grom, head of the German air force, died by poisoning after surrender. Heinrich Himmler and Hans Georg Friedeburg had prior poison concealment. Albert Forster surrendered to British forces in Hamburg and was turned over to the American Army. Other risk figures and leaders were rounded up. Trials for war crime offenses are expected to begin within weeks, said Robert A. Jackson. (Continued on Page Three.)

He returned from leave in Loudain and Paris, and Maple Leaf carried the appointment story. Two commendations Ottawa May 2 Defence HQ announced awards for gallantry to Captain Herbert C. Macewell and Lieut. Geoie Fawcett for service in northwest Europe.
