Report notes Iraqi forces cut an oil pipeline while a British held air base remains besieged. Nazi leader Hitler ranted at Churchill and the U S, asserting Germany’s strength and promising better weapons ahead in 1935 context.
The British Middle East command stated most of Iran's air force is destroyed and Iraqi artillery pounding the Habbanivah base has been rendered comparatively inactive by Allied aircraft. The Habbanivah garrison remains intact with few casualties, and British troops hold the Basra area without interference near the Persian Gulf.
Wilson H. Craig, 20, son of J B Craig of the Lethbridge fire department, is reported missing on war service by naval authorities. A former telegrapher in the Royal Canadian Navy, he joined the navy a year ago after Esquimalt training and Pacific coast wireless telegraphy courses. Details are scarce.
Arthur R. Ford the London Free Press editor told Ingersoll Hirams club that ex president Herbert Hoover was widely blamed for opposition to aiding Britain. Ford, after visits to Washington and New York, said correspondents and others believed Hoover behind anti-assistance efforts due to his personal stance toward FDR and his defeat.
Belfast reports that Irish Firefighters aided Ulster defense despite Nazi intimidation. Dublin crews previously helped Belfast, with warnings of harsher consequences for further assistance.
Northern Ireland reported heavy sustained air raids on Belfast and Liverpool last night. German bombers caused widespread damage to commercial industrial and residential property as North Irish and Liverpool areas were struck for the fourth night running.

Ottawa May 3 Conservative House Leader Hanson urged the government to curb peacetime expenditures and lead Canadians by economy. He argued the public would accept new taxes but criticized current spending, signaling broad discontent with welfare money. Continued on Page Three.
A dramatic wartime account by Robert St John recounts fleeing Yugoslavia and Greece under Nazi bombardment. From Budva he sails in a small sardine boat with scarce fuel and bread, aided by local fishermen, evading Italian occupation as he charts a perilous route toward safety.
Ottawa reports Victor QuelchND Acadia moved an amendment to the budget motion urging stronger control of bank credit to curb inflation.
