Season’s prospects for South Alberta winter wheat were reported as exceptionally good by W. D. Hay from the Lethbridge Experimental Farm after a four day field survey with Dr. L. E. Tyner. Acreage is down from 1947 while farmers with crops in sight are pleased, Foremost shows most seeding. seeding in Stirling region was set to begin this week. The recent dry weekend affected farm lands.

Blairmore May Day Held For Workers Across Pass
A mass meeting in Columbus hall brought together workers from Bellevue to Fernie B C for May Day. Mayor Enoch Williams presided and announced Blairmore will host the largest May Day next year. Speakers included Jack Hampson Alberta secretary Canadian Congress of Labor Edmonton John Stokaluk U M W of A Calgary and Sam Weaver Michel Local U M W of A. Children received May Day gifts of money. May Day was quietly observed in Lethbridge with no union celebrations.

Pioneer Farmer of Carmangay Dies at 71
John Magnus Nelson aged 71 of Carmangay died Saturday May 1 after a short illness. Born in Asatyd Sweden in 1876 he came to Canada in 1906 and lived in Lethbridge before moving to Carmangay where he farmed 42 years. Surviving are his wife Ida Christine Nelson a son Hjalmar of Carmangay a brother Oncar Nelson a sister Mrs Albertina Larson of Lethbridge and three brothers and one sister in Sweden. Funeral at Carmangay United Church Wednesday May 5 at 2 30 Rev Peter Dawson officiating. Interment Carmangay cemetery. Martin Brothers in charge.

Firecrackers At Coleman School Lead To Suspension
Coleman school board debated a seven grade student’s suspension after he lit a firecracker in Mrs. Beck's open room window. Vice-principal Horace Allen detained him, with Principal Hoyie, Chairman Evans, and Trustee Wilkie supporting the action. The board approved an indefinite suspension to allow parents to respond to their son’s progress and behavior.

Weather Bright sunny spell extends across western prairies
Western Alberta will see bright sunshine today and Tuesday with gradually rising temperatures in Saskatchewan and eastern Alberta. A few showers are possible this afternoon, clearing tonight. A series of weather disturbances approaches from the BC coast bringing clear warm conditions to the western prairies with a later increase in cloud over extreme western Alberta tomorrow evening. Forecasts for Lethbridge and Medicine Hat show clear to partly cloudy skies with SW winds 15 to 35 mph and temperatures ranging from 38 to 67 degrees.
