Liberal rally sets June 15 meeting in Macleod
Macleod Liberal Federal Constituency Association met at St. Andrews church hall to fix June 15 as the annual meeting and nominating convention site. Hon. James A. MacKinnon and Hon. James G. Gardiner were invited to address the public that evening. The gathering pushed for full organization across all 187 polling districts and discussed Gardiner’s agricultural policies and wartime economy. Local organizers were named to lead efforts in Macleod and surrounding polling divisions.

Bellevue Resident Recovering From Illness
Bellevue March 30 Alex Wells known as Scotty is recovering after a stomach ailment. He was taken by local miners ambulance to Holy Gross hospital in Calgary last week. His sister Mrs Robtn Lattle ton RN of Cowley accompanied him. Wells is a well known rider in Pass and Cowley Lundbreck district and is receiving many well wishes from friends.

Retlaw Alberta March 30 An early pioneer and farmer John E Higgins marked his 66th milestone March 27 with greetings from friends. He came to Alberta from Craigmyle Ontario in 1906 and settled on the land where he remains. He ran the first threshing outfit north of the river before the combine. He married Mildred Lang from Shelburne Ontario in 1917 and they have four children. Eldest son Corporal Louis Higgins volunteered in 1939 and is serving with the Canadian army.

Imperial Oil Co. prepares to drill a new well about five miles southeast of Taber near Horsefly lake or Rocky lake. A large steel derrick and equipment arrived from north of the river Tuesday night and moved to the site the next day. Mrs P Bonnier of Cowley Passes
Mrs Palmyre Bonnier of Cowley died Tuesday evening after a lengthy illness. A native of France who came in 1910, she lived in Coleman and Blairmore before moving to a ranch north of Cowley. Age 55, she leaves two sons Clovis and Adolphe, both of Cowley. Funeral set for Cowley at 2 o clock Friday afternoon.

Fernie BC March 30 throngs attended burial services for Eddy Kenny Stewart pioneer merchant under Elk River Lodge 35 AF and AM at Christ Church. Rev EB Munn officiated as streets filled with mourners from Fernie and nearby towns. Many visitors including A B Sanborn former Fast Kootenay Power manager attended. Interim interment at St Margaret's cemetery. Stewart died in Calgary after an operation.
