Soviet Officer Seized in Oregon on Espionage Charge
A 29 year old Soviet naval lieutenant Nicolai Gregorovich Redin was arrested in Portland Oregon as he was about to board a Russian vessel for home. Authorities accuse him of seeking arms and information about the destroyer Yellowstone. Redin had no diplomatic immunity and was arraigned before Commissioner Leedy. The case was disclosed by FBI agent Julius A Bernard after J Edgar Hoover announced the seizure.
