The Alberta legislature considered the margarine measure, amending controls to prohibit selling or offering margarine colored to resemble butter. Restaurants must display a Margarine Served Here sign, and rules cover moisture and butter fat content. Debate followed Colborne’s opposition as prorogation loomed.
The King marked Newfoundland joining the federation on March 31 by creating a special honors list. Severe storms tore across Texas Mississippi and Louisiana killing seven people and wounding 34. Six deaths occurred in Mississippi with most casualties south of Greenville while one fatality happened in Texas. A tornado first struck near Oak Grove Louisiana injuring a woman. El Paso also suffered a major sandstorm and a painter died after being blown from a rooftop.
A United States Air Force transport plane crashed into a building at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal during a blinding snowstorm last night, killing all three aboard. The incident occurred amid severe weather, with investigators expected to assess the wreckage and determine the cause.
Missionary Rev. Joseph Bullard, who wandered thousands of miles with Eskimo groups in northern Canada, was found alive near Churchill Manitoba after his hands and feet froze during a long trek. He resisted evacuation, hoping to continue his work, while plane rescues and prior frost injuries are noted.
DMONTON March 26 Charges will be laid against L A Magee of Calgary in connection with attempts to obtain approval in the Alberta legislature of a bill incorporating a fire insurance company Attorney General Lucien Maynard announced Friday. The announcement came as the legislature’s private bills committee rejected the Northland Insurance Company incorporation bill. Maynard did not specify the exact charges but earlier indicated a possible bribery count. The bill was dropped after O Tyndale of Calgary said Magee was no longer connected with the proposed company. Rose Wilkinson sponsor of the bill was assured applicants would recover most costs of incorporation.
Three Canadians from Ontario and Saskatchewan each won $100,000 in the Irish Hospital Sweepstakes, holding tickets on Russian Hero the winning Grand National horse at Aintree. Winners include W. S. Cowley of Kisley Ralph Day and George Greig Toronto. Day’s wife said he held a ticket despite illness. Greig said it was his first ticket ever.
Peter Diakow, a 58 year old farmer from the Lloyds Hill district north of Congort, is hospitalized with head injuries and a fractured back after his team bolted while he hauled feed. His wife found him unconscious in a field when the wagon returned damaged.

The American born activist and friend of Lenin is described as jailed in Lubianka and deported as a spy after being arrested in Russia. The serial promises insights into Lenin Stalin Trotsky Vishinsky and life behind the Iron Curtain.
Seven U S air force crew members aboard a C 82 crash landed near Barrow Strait about 350 miles north of the magnetic north pole. A Resolute Bay message said all seven are in excellent condition. Eight aircraft, including six U S planes and an R C A F ski Dakota, joined the search led by Air Commodore Martin Costello from Winnipeg. The belly landing left the men with ample gear as rescuers comb the Arctic waste.
John Diefenbaker in Ottawa urged Canada to exploit the United States market for farm products citing Britain’s inability to buy Canadian foods. He called for removing export embargoes on hogs pork and dairy to the US and supported extending federal boards to fulfill UK food agreements while Britain shifts to sterling area.
