Cpl. Preben Malm Rasmussen a 26 year old Danish student pilot with the Royal Norwegian Air Force was killed when his plane crashed into Toronto Bay He was the sole occupant Rasmussen had met Wendell Willkie during his visit to Little Norway on Monday breaking news of a fatal aviation accident involving a foreign air force trainee in Canada.
British troops in training for an invasion of Europe demonstrated light amphibian assault boats at the school for amphibian shock troops. The birchbark canoe inspired craft can be portaged by four men and are used in synchronized paddling to the rhythm of the Volga boat man song.
Ottawa reports calculations of an effective price of wheat for farmers reaching 89 cents per bushel under the 1941 policy. The plan bases marketing quotas on 65 percent of 1940 acreage with a 35 percent cut in spring wheat acreage to fit a 230 million bushel government purchase.
Ottawa March 26 Five weeks after its introduction the 1.3 billion dollar war appropriation bill for the 1941-42 fiscal year passed the Canadian House of Commons. The measure went through on a voice vote with only scattered cries of nay as the house reached its first full dress division.
Washington dispatches report that Britain plans to commit large Mediterranean forces to the Balkans with Gen Wavell likely moving headquarters from Egypt to Greece. Belgrade cites about 150000 British troops in Greece as the buildup continues amid stalled North African action after Benghazi.

Ottawa March 26 the government should seize all elevators and storage space in Western Canada and run them under a board. E E Perley of the Conservative party argued elevators under state ownership could yield 40 million dollars yearly and pay for themselves in about three and a half years. Senn pressed for parity of prices between farm and other products to aid agriculture and war effort, noting producer representatives were missing from boards.
Forty five Jamaican artisans and technicians have arrived in Britain to help combat Nazi aggression. They will be employed in civilian capacities to bolster production and support Allied efforts during the war.

Cairo, Egypt, March 26. British command announced a small enemy detachment occupied El Agheila, 150 miles southwest of Bengasi. British patrols had withdrawn from the town, while the German high command said German troops had occupied El Agheila yesterday. El Agheila lies on the Mediterranean Gulf of Sidra, and was a key point in Wavell’s earlier push into Libya.
Washington March 26 Acting secretary of state Sumner Wells said officials study all aspects of Germanys extension of counter blockade to within three miles of Greenland. Pending study he declined to say steps or whether the zone might extend to Iceland. US ships have not operated to Iceland though other registry vessels sail between Iceland and New York. The neutrality patrol now ends east of Halifax.
Edmonton reports Maj J H Gainor recruiting officer for Military District No 13 says 600 recruits are required in Alberta for a new Canadian Active Army quota. Openings cover all branches with demand for tradesmen technicians and skilled workers. Target date April 17.
In Miami Florida on March 26 a United States navy plane delivered the seven billion dollar British aid bill to President Franklin D Roosevelt for his signature.
