London reports that a government plan to join the Axis is likely to be postponed amid war discussions. Rev. E. A. Shute, vicar of Mitcham, argues that Berlin is as inflammable as London and notes military importance on par with the capital.
In Belgrade three Serb cabinet members resign in protest against the crown council's move toward axis alignment. Prince Paul, facing a faction split, postpones a Vienna trip while he seeks cabinet reorganization. Four generals are pensioned as observers note army opposition amid the political crisis.
Plymouth bore the brunt of Luftwaffe attacks as RAF hit Lorient for the 48th time. A Junkers 88 raid along the southeast coast dropped bombs and machine gunned streets, causing some residential damage but few casualties. London suffered less, though fires raged in the southwest port citys business district and crews fought blazes until dawn.
Coventry, England recovers quickly after November’s heavy bombing. Mayor Moseley credits strong civic cooperation. Fire-damaged cathedral walls remain as reminders while stores reopen and workers boost output by ten percent, despite losses.

The Balkans may see Britain press for a Balkan front against Germany to hold southern Europe for future operations. Yugoslav Turkish solidarity grows with British support via troops and materiel at Salonika and Greek ports while German forces consolidate on Bulgaria’s side and study long supply lines through Bulgaria and Romania. Hitler’s strategy since 1939 favors a single front, but a Balkan opening could fragment Axis aims and threaten Mussolini.
Cairo reports British bombers and South African Air Force entries targeting Eritrea's Cheren strongholds. The RAF communique notes "many tens" dropped in yesterday's raid as forces aim to breach Cheren's lines to seize key railway and port links. Special service and prayers are planned in Calgary churches on Sunday March 23 in observance of the day of prayer ordered by the King. The event is coordinated across city congregations with the aim of unified worship and reflection.
The 8441 ton British freighter Empire Attendant, torpedoed March 7 off the Irish coast with four other ships, arrived in port today and anchored at quarantine. Captain Ain Kooy of the Leerdam said he was near the Empire Attendant when the torpedo struck. Officials declined further comment. The after sections of the freighter were missing and harbor officers planned to tow her to a drydock.
In Plymouth on March 21 the King and Queen visited a rest centre where troops bombed areas were viewed and women danced. The King asked Lady Astor about the dance, and she replied It is the Naval Three Step.

Regent Prince Paul accepts the resignations and orders rapid replacement efforts as Vienna signing plans for the three power pact loom. Ottawa moves to Easter adjournment. King announces, budget timing uncertain. In Cheren Eritrea Italian counter attacks inflict serious casualties and capture prisoners. U.S. House approves a 4.07 billion Army Navy appropriation by 329 to 0. Ottawa war bill second reading proceeds in Commons.
