Cardston grieving for 49 year old Royal Bank manager John Dewar, a noted community leader and past Rotary president. He died Saturday night in Calgary after attending a bankers convention. tribute poured in from Mayor Joseph Low and local clubs. Pte Adolf Kratz, 24, and Sgt. Werner Schwalb face hanging on June 26 for the July 22 1943 murder of Pte August Plaszek at Medicine Hat POW camp. Alberta jury found Kratz guilty with mercy recommendation. Howson set June 26 as the execution date. Kratz and Schwalb are held in adjoining cells under guard awaiting the sentence.
