British papers denounce Premier Stalin for his attack on Winston Churchill and urge a Big Three meeting to repair rift with the United States and United Kingdom. Churchill to address a world affair from New York, with many diplomats present. Gromyko may attend.
Foreign Secretary Bevin told the House of Commons Britain would regret any Tehran settlement extracted while Soviet troops occupy Iran. He said no British decision to return troops or open negotiations had been made despite assurances from Stalin that Iran’s integrity would be respected.

National headquarters of the United Packinghouse Workers Union announced that the Toronto Canada Packers local passed a resolution calling on federal and provincial governments to investigate the black market in meat and meat products and pass legislation to end the illegal practice.
Alberta Farmers Union president Carl Stimpfle told the legislature committee that existing labor laws should extend to farm workers including female help. He listed six conditions favoring parity wages, two weeks’ paid holidays, and inclusion of skilled farm labor in any 40 hour week and 60 cent minimum wage proposals.
Churchill, rested after six weeks in Florida, will address New York City at a civic dinner Friday night as a likely final speech of his American visit. He sails home March 21 aboard the Queen Mary. The Duke of Northumberland engagement to Lady Elizabeth Douglas Montagu-Scott will be announced today.
Ottawa March 14. The throne speech outlines Parliament will tackle measures for world reconstruction and enduring peace. It calls for approval of the 1.25 billion loan to the United Kingdom, redistribution of Commons representation, permanent armed forces, veterans charter, and a bill clarifying Parliament.
Agriculture Minister D. B. MacMillan said no final location for the new agricultural school has been decided. The agricultural education board will meet soon to consider Vermilion Olds options while the federal Vocational Education Agreement will cover half of the 500000 cost. The minister emphasized final site choice will serve the widest need and he will make the final decision. HALMRAST
The first contingent of the Canadian Army Occupation Force, about 3,500 troops, begins leaving the Canadian sector of northwest Germany on March 22 en route to England and Canada. Aldershot repatriation camps will host troops before voyage. follow-up brigades will depart in sequence, with a four month projected move window, possibly by early June.
New York reports an end to two major labor stoppages as 275,000 GM and GE workers are set to return to work after settlements with 184 cent per hour wage increases. Remaining idle workers include 150,000 steelworkers and 75,000 CSO electrical workers as nationwide reconversion continues.

Edmonton March 14 The budget debate signalled as the assembly adjourned after Premier Manning moved the adjournment. 14 speakers had voiced views, compared with 18 a year ago. Manning will be the sole speaker when sessions resume, then the house will approve the budget. Willmore urged restraint on taxes while praising road appropriations and tourism. Chang Kai-Ngau reported that Chiang Kai-Shek ordered no discussion of Sino-Soviet economic co operation before Soviet withdrawal. Angry shouts interrupted as troops moved north in seven trains toward Siberia. Mukden and suburbs reportedly under Chinese control with peace and order maintained.
London March 14 Reuters notes Foreign Secretary Bevin’s Commons statement. He says Britain has asked the Soviet Union about troop withdrawal from Iran, no decision to replace troops has been made, and no negotiations begun for their return. He quotes Soviet assurances that Iran’s independence and territory will be respected and denies any aggressive intent.
Soviet agency Tass said reports by the US State Department on Russian troop movements in Iran do not reflect reality. Moscow broadcast the reaction, marking the first Russian response to the department statement.
