Alberta budget outlines 1942 surplus and no tax rise
Hon Mr Low presented a balanced provincial budget in the Alberta legislature forecasting an $11 270 surplus for the year ending March 31 1942. Deficits for prior years were cited while unemployment relief costs are to be shared with the federal government with the province paying 40 percent and municipalities 20 percent. The health minister later announced the province would pay 80 percent starting next April.

Fast Fascist Cruiser Sunk By Submarine Attack
The admiralty announced one of Italy's fastest cruisers from the Bartolomeo Colleoni class was almost certainly sunk by a submarine in the Mediterranean. Italian destroyers rescued some survivors as an Australian cruiser and British destroyers had previously sunk the Bartolomeo Colleoni last July 19. The remaining ships in the class are Giovanni Delle Bande Nere Alberto di Giussano and Alberico da Barbiano.

Powerfully Armed Italian Raider Sunk Off Indian Ocean
London dispatch reports the Italian government ship Rambi a fast armed raider masquerading as a British merchantman in the Indian Ocean, engaged by New Zealand cruiser HMS Leander and sunk after her Red Ensign was hauled down.
