Gouzenko Testifies At Carr Hearing

Igor Gouzenko testified that Sam Carr sought $9000 to obtain a forged passport for a Russian agent in the United States. Drumheller Teachers Seek Authority For Strike Vote

Edmonton March 1. Eric C. Ainsley ATA general secretary says 35 Drumheller teachers seek authority for a strike vote to win wage gains. The dispute has dragged since April 1948 with a suggested award of 2370 yearly, still the lowest in Alberta if accepted.

Attempt Save Pet Bird Fur Coat Nearly Fatal

Winnipeg report says a housewife Doris Annan aged 21 was rescued from a blaze by firefighters after she re entered the burning home to save her pet love bird and a fur coat. Fellow occupant Leslie McDonald carried out her two year old child as smoke filled the second floor. The fire was confined to the basement with damage to the house.

France may ask west powers to aid espionage drive

Reuters reports from Aris say France may seek cooperation from Britain Belgium the Netherlands Luxembourg and Italy in the anti espionage drive. French police continue round the clock checks on alleged Communist spies with three more detainees questioned and a government spokesman calling the affair extremely serious. Police operations involve hundreds of military and civilian security personnel.

Britain's delegate proposed a 1.75 dollars per bushel ceiling for world wheat prices at the international conference.
