Pentecostalists Freed to Go to Israel from Soviet Union

A family of 15 Pentecostalists departed Moscow for Vienna on a flight to Israel, five years after five members sought refuge in the US. Among them are Pyotr Vashchenko, 55, his wife Augustina, 54, their 12 children and daughter-in-law Ludmilla, with Lubov Vashchenko, 30, sister to Pyotr, declaring religious persecution as motive. American diplomats said a deal with Soviet authorities allowed their emigration.

Chilean Association Members Take Their Protest To Streets

The Lethbridge Chilean Association joined a downtown protest calling for an end to repression and a return to democracy in Chile. About 15 pickets waved signs as Edecio Carrasco said the gathering marks the start of a larger demonstration. Carrasco stressed nonviolence but readiness to use all means to defend democracy.

Kesler forecasts new party in Alberta after WCC split

Working women initiatives aim to boost training and equality

Ottawa CP reports the federal government unveiled initiatives to improve women in the workforce including tougher training access for future jobs. West Coast grain pact could boost Southern Alberta farmers

A verbal agreement between the Grainworkers Union and West Coast terminals may boost grain movement to export ports in Southern Alberta. Alberta Terminal Ltd. manager Jim O Donnell said warehouses could empty by month’s end, easing start of the new crop year. Grain workers would gain $1 an hour, above federal guidelines, while some observers expect modest demand impact for feedmills and barley movement pending next rains.
