Former P O W Comes On Leave From Germany
Cranbrook British Columbia former Flying Officer Leonard Cox RCAP who spent over a year as a prisoner of war in Germany has arrived for a month of leave at his mother Mrs L Cox's home. He was a tall gunner aboard a bomber crew shot down during a low level mission near Abbeville in March 1944 and escaped but was later captured and sent to Upper Silesia. The unit was marched westward for three weeks by the Germans as the Russian army neared the Polish border and was liberated by the Russians in April. His brother Flight Lieutenant Walter Cox CAF also served overseas and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
