German raiders bombed Hull last night in a raid lasting over an hour. A museum and exhibits were destroyed, shopping center and homes damaged, fires burning until today. Casualties rose as rescue teams searched wreckage. hundreds fled to air raid shelters. Hull, a frequent wartime target, faced severe destruction and long rebuilding ahead.
President Roosevelt nominates Ray Atherton as minister to Canada to succeed the late Jay Pierrepont Bizarr. Atherton, 60, Brookline Mass., veteran diplomat, former minister to Denmark and Bulgaria, heads the State Department European division and speaks French. Also named are William Burdett as minister to New Zealand and Loy Henderson as minister to Iran.
