McLaughlin Is Unanimous Liberal Nominee In Lethbridge
Harold B. McLaughlin of Lethbridge, a garage proprietor, won unanimous Liberal support at a Tr i anon Hall nominating convention led by A J Cullen. MLA J Harper Prowse spoke as the Liberal leader, pledging an aggressive campaign while McLaughlin urged development and warned heritage is jeopardized by the current government. Five resolutions backed Crown loyalty, leadership, and tax reform while welcoming McLaughlin as the second race entrant alongside E S Vaselenak of the CCF. Social Credit readers plan to choose an additional candidate next week.

Paymaster Glover Busy With Alberta Units
Major R M Glover, paymaster for the south Alberta area, is scheduled to travel to Macleod tonight to pay members of the 93rd Battery RCA. He will be at the Lethbridge armories tomorrow evening to pay Lethbridge units of the 18th Field Regiment RCA and members of 140 LAD RCEME. On Wednesday June 30 he will pay all ranks of the 6th Field Park Co RCE at their North Lethbridge headquarters.

Four Men Fined Or jailed In City Police Court Liquor Case
In police court Wednesday morning four men faced liquor charges. Each chose either a $20 fine and costs or 30 days in jail. George Brean of Enchant Bar ney Chapman of no fixed abode John Berg of Turin and J Savi of Lethbridge were charged with intoxication in public or unlawful possession of liquor.

School Patrol Banquet Honors Young Patrons in Three Towns
The Alberta Motor Association hosted a banquet at the Marquis Tuesday night marking the first anniversary of the school patrol system in Lethbridge Taber and Barnwell. 48 patrol youths ages 10 to 12 plus many guests heard Dr. G Hope speak on patrol history and safety.

Liberal Leader Promises All Weather Alberta Roads
J Harper Prowse, Alberta Liberal leader, told a Lethbridge Liberal convention that the Social Credit government wasted 8 million dollars on substandard roads. He accused engineers of finding ultralow sub-base density, saying roads crumble with weather. He pledged allweather highways if elected, avoiding crimped construction and fairweather roads.

Ab Hyssop Old Timer Passes
Abraham Ab Hyssop 54 lifelong Eight Mile Lake resident and farmer died after a short illness in a local hospital. Born in Lethbridge on April 28 1804 he belonged to the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include brothers William Chippewa Ont and Charles Lethbridge sisters Myrtle Eight Mile Lake Mabel Empress and Margaret Dunlop. Funeral at Martin Brothers chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday June 26 with Rev E L Garvin officiating. Burial Mountain View cemetery.

Grasshopper activity rises along Alberta southern boundary
The Alberta agriculture department reports increased grasshopper activity from Lethbridge to Saskatoon area with a hot spot around Bow Island east of Lethbridge. No outbreaks reported in central or northern areas.
