A cold, methodic killer fled a Langton bank holdup near St Thomas Ontario after exchanging fire with pursuing insurance agent Art Lierman and farmer William Goddyn. The bandit blasted their car with a Sten gun, killing both pursuers, then fled into scrub country leaving $23,000 behind. Edmonton Tragedy Claims Three Residents in Highway Crash
Three Edmonton residents Sidnet Smith 62 his wife and Mrs Janet Cooke died when their auto swerved off the Edmonton Calgary highway ten miles south of Edmonton and rolled in a ditch. The two women died instantly and Smith died en route to hospital. The crash occurred near the spot of a fatal April collision. Witnesses said the northbound car veered to pass another vehicle on the wrong side of the road. The car plunged 125 yards along the ditch, somersaulted into the air and collapsed into the ditch crossing. The occupants were found outside the wreckage.
