In and Out of Out Mrs Williams and son depart for home

Mrs D J L Williams and her son Michael of Barons have left the city after a few days visit accompanied by Mrs Williams mother Mrs J H T Westbrook. They attended the Y M C A Western Area conference at Chateau Lake Louise this weekend.

Southern Alberta Writers Club Ends Active Year

Southern Alberta Writers Club concludes its term with a city conference as it plans to reopen October 15. Clara Cine Thompson spoke on overcoming discouragements and market selection for short stories, with Herb Wannop on journalism. Annora Brown of Macleod will speak at reopens. The Writers Workshop meets monthly and offers mutual help. The club holds thrice yearly meetings across the south.

Married at Cranbrook

In a ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Murdoch in Cranbrook eldest daughter Bertha Margaret married Vernon E. Askew of Cranbrook son of Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Askew of Medicine Hat. The bride wore a silver green gabardine suit with brown accessories and was attended by Miss Jean Murdoch. Roy Webb was groomsman. Rev. A. L. McIntyre officiated. A buffet breakfast followed and the couple departed for California. Bertha Margaret grew up locally and studied at Edmonton before working at Sullivan mine office. Vernon E. Askew grew up in Medicine Hat, served in the R.C.A. and has lived in Cranbrook two years as partner in Cranbrook Paint and Body Shop.

The female students voted him down proposing a women’s access to the river by offering a “nun’s delight” for nature amid boating. Bishop Carroll Addresses C W L at Calgary Convention

Bishop F P Carroll of Calgary spoke at the 26th annual Calgary diocese Catholic Women's League convention opening session in the Parish Hall. He urged lay participation in Catholic action, stressing the laity's role in priestly work and church mission, and praised the Lethbridge hosts and CWL units for organizing the event.

Grand Duchess Olga and Family Arrive in Canada

Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna Kulikovsky arrives in Quebec with her husband Colonel Kulikovsky and sons after 28 years in exile. The party includes Danish wives and grandkids as they plan to settle on a farm near Toronto seeking opportunity for the clan.

Warner No. 72 Order of Royal Purple hosted its official visit from Deputy Supreme Honored Royal Lady Grevett of Calgary at the Elks Hall. Plans Advance for Miss Southern Alberta Contest

Plans progress for selecting Miss Southern Alberta in a beauty pageant sponsored by the Lethbridge Junior Chamber of Commerce chaired by Norm Heintz. Eleven entrants include seven from Lethbridge and one each from Taber Medicine Hat Coleman and Vauxhall. The July 1 final at Lethbridge Arena features George Brown as MC and gift prizes funded by local stores. top prize includes a trip to Hamilton, $100, the D A Raworth Trophy, and a Miss Canada Pageant outfit with additional awards and gifts announced later.

Canyon Church Camp Ready for Busy Year

Running water showers and cozy cabins greet campers at Canyon Church Camp in Waterton Lakes Park. The ten day program includes sports hiking swimming and crafts with meals by Mrs Parry and Mrs Meikle. Fruit Filled Cookies From The Herald's Daily Recipe

The Herald presents a fruit filled cookie recipe. Cream shortening and sugar, beat in egg and vanilla, add sifted ingredients with cream. Chill dough three hours, roll and cut, place jelly center, cover with a second cutout cookie, seal edges, bake 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

Kinsmen Club Ladies Night Banquet at Country Club

Members of the Kinsmen Club hosted a Ladies Night banquet and dance Thursday at the Country Club. Over 40 couples attended and danced to Lloyd Rossetti's orchestra. A skit titled Mrs. Ainsberg's Second Hand Fashion Review was presented.
