Disaster Is Facing Crops In Eastern Canada

One of the worst springs in history threatens a crop disaster for eastern Canada especially Ontario Quebec and New Brunswick. CFA president Hannam says 50 percent of coarse grain planted in central western Ontario 20 percent in eastern Ontario five percent in Quebec and 40 percent in New Brunswick have been seeded or planted. A 60 percent eastern total is optimistic with a likely 45 percent overall grain supply and a potential shortfall of about 70 million bushels of oats and barley. Western Canada may be tapped to cover the deficit in feed grain for livestock. Weather and western expansion to support livestock are key questions.
