Labuan Isle Attacked by Allied Forces, Report Says

ANILA June 9 Tokyo radio reported Allied troops landed yesterday on Labuan island off Borneo's north coast as SW Pacific HQ said Borneo was bombed heavily for a seventh straight day. Torpedo-boats conducted daring sweeps, coastal defences shelled, and 170 tons of bombs cratered air dromes destroying two planes.

Edmonton Soldier Sentenced to Hang for Murder

Daniel Harrison, 28, a former Edmonton soldier, was convicted of murder by a Vancouver BC court and sentenced to hang for the second time after a retrial. The 12 jurors deliberated seven minutes, with the judge confirming the Sept. 18 hang date. His wife and family watched as the sentence was read. An appeal is planned.
