British troops occupy Mosul in Iraq amid rioting in Baghdad and martial law, as Britain strengthens its Middle East war stance ahead of a broader clash with Germany. Beirut oil depot raid reported by Vichy sources in Lebanon.
Ottawa report says the first two days of the 600 million Victory Loan campaign total subscriptions reached 98,777,350. Opening day subscriptions were 355,951,250 with small investors driving the rise as applications from investors tripled. Most orders favor the 10 year term. The largest subscription came from IT Eaton Company Limited.
Ontario Attorney General Gordon Conant urged in a telegram to Finance Minister Hiley that the proposed federal tax on British and foreign insurance companies be referred to Ontario’s appeal court for an opinion on its validity unless the federal government refers it to the Supreme Court of Canada. He said the tax should not be enacted in the current Parliament session.
Dominion Bureau of Statistics reports Canadian meat in store during the week ending March 30 increased by 2 987 719 bushels from the prior week and up 185 203 147 bushels from the same week in 1940. There is 67 331 000 bushels in store.

LONDON HOMES BOMBED LONDON, June 4 Bombing damaged private homes in London at a higher rate than other English dwellings. Health Minister Ernest Brown said over 80 percent of repairable houses were windproofed and watertight. Last week 32,000 London houses and 40,000 in the provinces were repaired.
United States vessels will immediately take over all British shipping routes from Canada and the United States to Australia and New Zealand to bolster Britain's ocean lifeline.
