The navy reported four Japanese bombers and about 15 fighters attacked Dutch Harbor, Alaska, at about 6 a.m. local time, with the assault lasting approximately 15 minutes. The communique added no further details and noted no other reports at that time.
In Los Angeles on June 3 a purported confession read in a federal trial states Dr. Hans Helmut Gros, born in Minneapolis, admits earning 200 dollars a month plus a 20 000 mark bonus as a German intelligence captain in the United States. He says he was to organize sabotage, photograph harbors, and contact labor leaders to influence German aims, while cooperating with Japanese intelligence on the West Coast.
A notice discusses the £1500-a-year pension for Dr Lang on retirement from the See of Canterbury. It notes that after palace, staff, and other expenses, the net personal balance is modest.
