Prices Rise Foreseeable After Decontrol Steps

Canadians face higher prices on shirts soap and gloves as the Prices Board cuts import subsidies on cotton products fats used in soap and leather goods. Birth and death rates in England and Wales 1946 quarter

BE quarterly return shows 222 891 live births in the quarter ended December 31 1946 with a birth rate of 20.5 per 1000. Deaths total 122 173 yielding a death rate of 11.3 per 1000. Infant mortality reached 44 per 1000 live births with 9129 deaths of children under one year. Marriages 191 256, above the five year average by 20 187. The annual rate for 1946 was 19.2 per 1000, highest since 1923.

Four Die When Light Seaplane Crashes Into Quebec River

A light seaplane crashed into the Lawrence River near Montreal killing four men. Three Toronto mining workers were recovered alive locals helped pull bodies from the wreck and identify them. The fourth victim was later identified as Lloyd W. Young of Long Branch. The pilot Jim Matheson and two others, M. M. Smith and Tucker Barris, died on impact. Residents reported the craft seemed to strike treetops, others suggested engine trouble. A nearby resident hauled the wreck to shore and morgue attendants removed the bodies.

Canadian Ship Noronic Fired On Near Ivy Sea Bridge

Passengers aboard the Great Lakes excursion steamer Noronic narrowly escaped injury when shots, likely from a rifle, struck near the Ivy Sea bridge area opposite Point Vivian as the vessel passed through the channel. Captain William Taylor ordered docking at Prescott and notified local police. New York state police take over the investigation.

King to Take Part in Cambridge Centenary Celebration

Blairmore June 2. John Olles of Blairmore to appear before Magistrate Fred Antrobus for preliminary hearing on a charge of shooting with intent to maim. A .22 rifle figure in an incident that wounded Toby Lessa, occurred about 1:30 pm Thursday from Olles yard next to Lessa’s home. Police found the house dark, ordered him to come out, and he surrendered. bail set at $1,000. The dispute stemmed from a late day altercation.

Rev Dr Endicott Dies in Saskatoon

The Rev Dr Charles Endicott 74 former secretary of the United church missionary and maintenance fund died in Saskatoon over the weekend. He was born in Devonshire England and settled in Winnipeg in 1893.
