Pioneer Day And Town's Birthday Celebrated At Garden City

The July 24 centennial celebration in Magrath marked a grand parade at 10 a.m. led by C. V. Harris on a gray horse, with prize winning floats and various decorated entries. Morning program featured Orson Bridge, Bishop C. Spencer, a pioneer poem, and choral renditions. Magrath’s 48th birthday honored attendees from 1899, with entertainment by the Magrath orchestra and band, a lunch by the Relief society, children’s races, rodeo events, and evening dancing to Scotty's Hot Spots.

Swathing Under Way at Nobleford Farms

Swathing of rye and winter wheat began mid last week on Noble and Luchia farms adjoining the village Nobleford. Combine harvesting is expected to start locally this week.

Carmangay Tot Escapes Drowning

Two year old Diane Clarke daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Clarke nearly drowned after being found unconscious in the stock watering trough near their Carmangay home. Grandmother Mrs Webb called for help, the father administered artificial respiration, and she was taken to Carmangay hospital where she is recovering.

Midway Women's Society Plans Carnival Meeting

A Midway Women's Society special meeting at Kay Woodhouse's home included 18 members and two visitors. After introductions and reports, funds of 106.04 were noted. Delegates discussed sewing commissions, stamps for Junior Red Cross Calgary, Amsterdam fund support, and carnival preparations with plans for future meetings and craft items.

Spring Coulee Plans Four Room School at Fail

Spring Coulee held two public meetings at the community hall and decided to build a four room school this fall. Van transportation was discussed. Visit to Athabaska and Grande Prairie Trip Noted

Mr and Mrs Cecil Hadford with Gene and Carol Ann left Tuesday for a visit to Athabaska and Grande Prairie. Budda of California visits friends and relatives arriving from the States with his two children. A son, Gary Kenneth, was born to Mr and Mrs K J Rhodes on Sunday last at HilLCrest.

Waterton guests and visitors fill Lomond area

District notes report Mrs Riggins of Spokane staying a week with Mr and Mrs Carnine at Waterton Lakes cottage. Numerous arrivals and returns surround Lomond and nearby towns with visitors from British Columbia Montana Calgary Sunnyside and Winnipeg. A wedding dance, buffet supper and local travel highlight a busy holiday period.

Family and social notes from local communities

En route to the coast, Dr. and Mrs. Giles joined others for a visit to Waterton, with the Giles returning to Milk River Saturday. A week of church vacation school was held with Miss Ann Gerri son of Lethbridge in attendance, followed by a Sunday school picnic with ice cream and watermelon for the children. A family dinner at Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Lane’s home included Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Thompson and others. Miss Ruby Odegard and Floyd Jones wed in Calgary last week. Masters William and Frederick Muler of Magrath visit their grandfather and aunt, W. Sevier and Miss Jessie Sevier, at Spring Coulee.

Three Sundial Boys Burned in Oil Explosion

Three Sundial boys suffered facial and bodily burns when an oil container exploded near a tractor Sunday morning. They stood about ten feet away as hot oil sprayed them. Dean sustained severe facial and head burns, Harold burned on one side of his face, and Larry burned on his ears and lower face.
