July 21.-A number of persons were wounded when strikers and gendarmes fired upon each other in Valencia yesterday. According to reports reaching the under secretary of the interior, the commandant of the gendarmes called upon a crowd o� strikers to disperse. They replied by firing on the gendarmes from roofs and porches. The police returned the fire and two soldiers, one policeman and six civilians were woundrd. Numerous persons were arrested. The market was strong. There was also a demand for cash wheat but offerings were light and the business done was not extensive. Oats and wheat for future delivery were higher. October wheat was bid up to $2.36V�. an advance of 6V>c above Saturdays closing price, while the continued hot and dry weather in western Canada is an important factor in the local situation. A good deal of the strength is due undoubtedly to the new advances at Chicago. Holders are, however, disinclined to sell while crop conditions remain unimproved. Flax was again strong and higher. Offerings are very light. Winnipeg cash wheat closed unchanged at $2.40. October wheat closed 6\ic higher than the previous close. July oats *4c higher, October \c higher and December unchanged. July flax closed 4c higher. October 4c up and December 3c higher. July barley closed Uc higher.
