Four men died from burns from a series of gasoline explosions that destroyed nine downtown Minot businesses. Fireman Orton Nelson, the fourth victim, was burned while fighting the flames. Three others Chester Westor William Foster and Adam Bunyan were injured but in good condition.

Montreal July 22. Warrant signed for J A Pat Sullivan president of the Canadian Lake Seamen Union on a charge of intent to maim after a downtown Notre Dame street brawl that injured Sullivan and John Chapman. Three CSU members, Davis Henry and Dabby, were arrested on assault and damage charges.
John E. Humphries, 18, charged with armed robbery in the December 23 Canadian Bank of Commerce holdup, was named by a suburban reporter as the car’s driver at a preliminary hearing in Vancouver. The judge adjourned the hearing to Thursday for potential committal to higher court.

London officials hunt John Edward Allen a one year convict who escaped Broadmoor Sunday night dressed as an Anglican clergyman. Allen murdered an 11 month old girl in October 1967 and escaped by climbing a 16 foot wall after taking 160 pounds from a prison canteen. He reportedly planned further crimes and sought to flee to London.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police report three people drowned when their boat overturned on an unnamed lake 25 miles north of Nolikewin, about 382 miles northwest of Edmonton. Victims were Mrs Pearl MacDonald and Mr and Mrs C B Evans. No other details released.

James One a 31 year old Japanese worker from Taber died at Cardston hospital after fracturing the base of the skull in a tunnel accident at the St Mary River dam site last Saturday. Engineers say a rock fragment likely struck him inside the outlet end of the tunnel about 600 feet in as he operated a Caterpillar tractor used to push loads into the tunnel. The accident has no known eyewitness and may prompt an inquest though none is announced. One was the only fatality on the dam project so far since work began a year ago.
MASSILLON O July 22 The mysterious infant deaths at Massillon City Hospital remain puzzling as a six year old boy’s statement shifts yet again. Mrs Roger Gue of nearby Nayarah or Na yara unclear location says her son now claims a large boy in a white coat entered the nursery where infants were found dying. Prosecutor McLaughlin and Coroner Reno dismiss the statement while Police Chief Sutter says the admission closes the case.
President Soekarno announced in Jakarta that ex Premier Sutan Sjahrir departed the country to explain the republican position abroad. He plans visits to the United States Australia India and England. Unofficial reports say he traveled in a private plane owned by an Indian manufacturer.
News from Java and Padang describe seven Dutch operations aimed at cutting the republic into parts. A Dutch army communique says first 24 hours objectives reached, with some advances and lower resistance than expected.
