Three Die In Bizarre Highway Accident Near Fernie
Three East Kootenay residents died in a pair of crashes on Highway 93 about 80 kilometres south of Fernie. Mervin J Matloch 24 of Fernie was struck by a motorcycle carrying two Grasmere men Edward S Butler 17 and Douglas R Brown 18. A northbound RCMP cruiser hit a victim lying in the roadway. Autopsies are planned and regional Coroner Allan Askey will lead an inquiry with no date set.
