Two Pass miners die in underground blast at mine
Two miners Martin Hruby aged 59 of Bellevue and Jack Dodsley age 9 of Screet were killed when a sudden air blast hurled them 50 to 100 metres at a shaft face about 9 20 am. The blast or blow-out is under investigation with theories including a natural gas pocket or rock fall. Rotella of Fernie was overcome by gas. other workers were evacuated and the shaft area closed as the company, union, and authorities review the incident.
