Ottawa delays signing of U S cruise missile testing pact

Canada will delay signing the umbrella defence agreement with the United States by at least ten days. External Affairs Minister Allan MacEachen says testing of unarmed cruise missiles will be allowed on Canadian soil under the pact, with details kept secret until formal signing. A separate treaty on cruise testing is planned for an Alberta weapons range after the umbrella agreement is in place.

Five year old Micheline Poulin hailed as hero after Cardston fire
