In South Portland on January 16 1947 Christine Gehrig, mother of the late New York Yankees first baseman who played 2130 consecutive games, will swing a champagne-attached bat to christen the Liberty ship Lou Gehrig. Second Raid On Lorient Threat Looms Over Europe
London reports a second RAF and RCAF raid on Lorient in western France with Halifaxes and Wellingtons. Canadian planes led the effort and more forceful than the previous night. Frank Spence Conservative member of the Ontario legislature for Port Williams died in Toronto on Friday after a brief illness. A Walkerton native educated in Prince Albert and Toronto, he was a pharmacist by training and served in the legislature from 1923 with re elections over the years. He is survived by his second wife and six children from his first marriage.
