London witnesses describe a lone mystery plane bombing a suburban theatre with no air raid alert. Seven killed, 31 injured as Brunswick suffers a heavy 2,000 ton RAF strike with 38 Allied aircraft losses and Berlin, Magdeburg, and northern France targets also hit.
In fierce fighting on the Italian front the 5th Army’s right wing trench troops repelled five German counter-attacks and advanced two miles toward Cassino. They seized Acquafondata and three heights above it while French forces under Gen. Juin pressed along the mountain line northwest of Cassino, strengthening the Allied flank and surrounding Viticuso. The Berlin radio later announced the Germans evacuated Acquafondata as Allied forces reach commanding positions near Mount Ferro and Vallrotonda.
George Collins, superintendent of the British Columbia security commission, said on Friday that since January 1 twenty Japanese have left interior B C allocation centres to take jobs in eastern Canada. Some are married and their families will probably accompany them.

Stockholm report says Nazi rocket propelled fighters were revealed after heavy RAF and American raids on Brunswick and Halberstadt. The craft reportedly climbs 414 miles in two minutes, far faster than conventional jets, with factories hit and other plants damaged during the Tuesday raids on central Germany.
England January 15. Air Vice Marshal Sir Robert Sandby of the Royal Air Force said German submarines have largely ceased molesting Atlantic convoys. He credited RAF coastal command and escort carriers, aided by Azores bases, with making the Atlantic too dangerous for U boats. He warned that if submarines attempt a comeback, the RAF will be ready.

Wilhelmina Reinders a Fort Norman high school graduate joined the RCAF Women’s Division after walking 19 miles with a pack pony to the river and boarding a boat to Peace River then train to Edmonton. She serves as a parachute rigger at Lethbridge and recalls traveling home by train and dog team during Christmas leave.
