Ottawa reports a seven tenths point fall in the official cost of living index from 159.6 to 158.2 at Dec 1, led by a sharp drop in egg prices and declines in meats vegetables and fruits. Rentals rose marginally while food and other groups show mixed movements.
Sydney reports widespread concern over Australia's stance against the Netherlands in the Indonesia dispute. In Colfax California seven aboard a United States Air Force C-47 transport were found dead with one presumed missing after a fiery crash 16 miles southeast of Colfax. The aircraft was en route from Hill Field Utah to McClellan Field Sacramento when it exploded at about 1000 feet.

Gerald Burk a year old Vancouver taxi driver and haemophiliac suffered critical injuries after two men unable to get a cab struck him with a blunt object on Christmas Eve. He has received several transfusions and remains in hospital.
