The Royal Air Force bombed a German Hipper class cruiser at Brest last night, hitting the docks amid heavy anti aircraft fire. The attack lasted nearly two hours starting around 8 p.m. under a clear sky.
British troops reported to have captured Brava on the Italian Somaliland coast, placing forces within 150 miles of Mogadiscio. The Nairobi communique said Brava fell yesterday to West African troops, with details sparse. Operations forward of the Juba river were noted as progressing, while Cheren and other Eritrean advances continued. A RAF attack targeted Addis Ababa’s airdrome in Ethiopia.
Athens reports 20,000 Fascist soldiers taken prisoner since the war began. Greek losses are not serious, according to a government spokesman. Among the captured Italians are 551 officers.

Bodies of Sir Frederick Banting and two companions were taken to Musgrave Harbor Newfoundland after a military plane crash en route to England. Banting survived briefly before dying. navigator William Bird and William Snailham were killed instantly. Captain Joseph C. Mackey, pilot, survived with minor injuries. Wreckage located ten miles from Musgrave Harbor by a Doting Cove party. Helicopters and RCAF planes prepared to move the bodies to Canada.
The 10,086-ton Bernardin De Saint Pierre arrived from Dakar carrying naval, army and air force officers to strengthen French Indo-China. Reports say the cargo may include planes, though the exact number was not disclosed.
In Ottawa on February 15 P Munitions Minister Howe touted Canada’s biggest aircraft plant at the head of the lakes turning out Hurricane planes at about 15 per week during northern Ontario power talks. Howe said the plant is serving war needs and producing the Hurricane, the plane that is winning the war. Premier Hepburn drew smiles as Howe spoke.

Crowe edged Boulton 17-16 in Hotelmen action, while McIntyre beat Stewart 12-6 in the Gas Co semi.
In Ottawa Manley Edwards urged the government to build adequate water storage in southern Alberta to ensure Canada’s share of border waters, boosting the sugar beet industry. Prime Minister Mackenzie King said a cabinet committee has under consideration the matter.
