Nelson, game to the last, stood In the centre of the ring and though he could hardly raise his hands, begged be allowed to continue. He "was led to the corner heart broken. the opposite corner of the ring the new lightweight champion of .the i'orld, Ad Wolgast, of Cadillac, Mich'., lifted to the shoulders of bis trainers while the 'big crowd cheered. Only once did Nelson 'have a chance. In the -twenty-second round with a swinging right across he jaw, be stag- gered Wolgast and before the round closed he dropped Wolgast in the mid- die of the ring with a similar blow. Three seconds were counted before Wolgast regained his feet The crowd prepared to leave the arena as the word went from the bench that another boy had -feller, a victim to tbe Dane. But in the next] round Wolgast recuperated and from then on slowly but surely wore Nel- son down. For twelve rounds before the finish Nelson seemed beaten and his blows -were dealt a-s though his arms 'were stiff. From the thirtieth round Nelson could hardly sefe or hear. The left side of his face bad lost all semblance to its former con- tour. He staggered and hung on. In the thirty-seventh round h'e was all but out. The round ended in furious exchange, Wol- gast having Che better of it. Round forced the pace constantly, backing his opponent up against the ropes. Wolgast, in a cor- ner got back fiercely but the cham- pion was not to be stopped. Time and time again Wolgast landed but Nelson never faltered.
