Bill Aims Ban on Fast Time Rent Increases

Ottawa reports a new bill to restrict rapid rent hikes. W L Le ttzir, president of the Canadian Property Owners Association, said the group will appeal to Finance Minister Abbott within three weeks. Regional meetings in Vancouver Edmonton Winnipeg Toronto and 56 other centres instruct the drive to present the case to the government. The exact increase level to be requested was not yet set.

Ottawa reports the CCL proposed labor code to broaden Ottawa jurisdiction in disputes. Meat price ceilings delayed reimposition plan explained

A government spokesman said meat price ceilings are temporarily delayed before reimposition after an order. Prague reports President Eduard Benes refused to accept the resignations of anti-Communist ministers in the national coalition. He left for his country home without action, resisting Communist demands to replace eight ministers. Winnipeg Moves Repeal of Railway Tax Exemption

January Coal Output Down Across Canada

January coal production fell 21 percent to 1,351,000 tons from 1927, with Western Canada hit by a Jan 13 strike causing a 43 percent drop in Alberta and British Columbia output. Saskatchewan and the Maritimes rose, while imports totaled 2,000,700 tons, down 13 percent from a year ago.
