Benito Nardone announced the postponement of Chessman’s execution, ahead of Eisenhower’s March 9 arrival, after a U.S. embassy warning to Governor Brown influenced the reprieve.
The Queen has delivered a healthy boy at 3 30 p m amid bells and cheering crowds outside Buckingham Palace. Prince Philip hosted a champagne toast as officials announced both mother and infant prince are well and Prime Minister and family receive the news.

Ottawa CP report says Labor Minister Starr announced a three man conciliation board to investigate the big contract dispute between the railways and non operating unions. The board will make non binding recommendations aimed at settling about 65 million dollars annually in contracts. Each side is to nominate a representative and if no chairman is agreed on in two weeks Starr will appoint one.
Dr. D. L. Gibson of the University of Saskatchewan dairy department states that high calcium in milk may shield bones from strontium-90 exposure. He notes milk is a carrier of strontium-90 but tests show many plant foods are more important diet sources of radioactivity.
Canadian MPs rose in the Commons to pass a motion of congratulations on the birth of the Queen and Prince Philip’s second son. Prime Minister Diefenbaker hailed domestic happiness and the royal family as a model for national life, while Opposition Leader Pearson and others voiced support and the chamber sang God Save The Queen.
Three crew members died in a head on freight train crash at Poomquet Nova Scotia with two locomotives bursting into flames. Three others were injured and treated. one rescuer saved two lives. The victims were La bert MacIvor Laird Smith and Clarence Lowe all of Stellarton N S.
The worst snow storm in years grips Ottawa prompting Mayor George Nelms to declare a state of emergency as heavy snow winds and rain lash the Atlantic seaboard. Elsewhere Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul win the pairs at the Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley California.
