Calgary ambulance race saves mother of twins

A five hour battle over icy roads and heavy snow first brought Abs. James Drek and his ambulance crew to a Calgary hospital. The mother, Abs. James Drek, delivered twins early this morning after a long rescue drive in harsh winter conditions. Officials reported the call came in at noon on Wednesday and the ambulance reached the scene after six and a half miles of travel, with a caterpillar tractor assisting along the route.

Seven Die in Quebec Fires in Chapleau and St Michel

Fires in Quebec within 24 hours killed seven people and destroyed two homes. In Chapleau county a farmhouse blaze claimed three Fontaine children Rosie Avra and Denis while three older siblings were saved. At St Michel near Levis a separate fire killed Irefle Michaud 83 his wife 72 and their daughter in law and two grandsons aged 18 and 12. Neighbors aided in saving others as authorities investigated arson unclear.

BERLIN Feb 5 MacBride leader of the Clann Na Fol party newly formed Republican won a seat in Dublin southwest, giving his party its first success in the Eire general election. Fianna Fail led in another three seats with Fine Gael two. A surprise outcome left Fine Gael trailing in the three seat Dublin district where Seen McEntee headed the poll. MacBride, a 42 year old Dublin lawyer and former IRA commander, led the Republican surge.
