In Montreal on December 22 a gunman who earlier stole $32 from a Midtown candy shop returned to demand the remaining $58. He told cashier Antoinette Solano that she had informed newspapers of the prior theft. The robber escaped with $45 this time, and Solano provided a detailed description.
British Overseas Airways Montreal office reports a minor fire on a plane taxing to land in Iceland. No crash occurred and the mishap is described as extremely minor. Two passengers and a stewardess were slightly injured during disembarkation. Names of injured not released.

In Philadelphia a seven month old baby was sent to prison with his mother who is accused of failing to report 587.20 earned while receiving public assistance. Mrs. Lillian Gilyard 38 denied charges and was sentenced to four months in county prison. Deputy sheriff asked what to do with the baby and the judge ordered the child to go with her.

Two CPR trainmen died when loose cattle cars rolled four miles to meet an oncoming freight train four miles west of Merritt British Columbia. The deceased was H. J. Haggerness of Brookmere aged 51. No others injured. Locomotive derailed. four cattle cars overturned. several cattle escaped. Merritt is 218 miles northeast of Vancouver.
