Edl gar Williams of Calgary was injured in a fight over the weekend. His left ear was bitten off and later sewn back in place by a doctor after ambulance workers retrieved the severed ear from the scene.
Solon Low of the Social Credit party urged Manitoba supporters to build a dynamic democratic spirit able to stand firm against Communists. He said democracies must be strengthened and living standards raised to ensure peace for generations. He spoke to the Manitoba Social Credit League in Winnipeg.
F Cobbold aged 44 will succeed Lord Catto as governor of the Bank of England in February becoming the youngest since 1847. He joined in 1933 and has served as deputy governor for three years. Bernard, 60, is named deputy governor. The bank faces a wartime salary cap of £2000 yearly and Cobbold has participated in most postwar international finance talks.
A Grants Pass high school football bus carrying the state champions overturned on icy Highway 99 near Sexton Mountain. Star halfback Al Newman and varsity end Sterling Heater died. 25 others including five in hospital, plus coaches, were injured. Driver A. P. Coale of Portland identified.
The Nanking Evening News reports China will charter 25 ships and 50 air transports to move 1,000 dependents of government officials from Nanking to Chungking Canton Hankow and Formosa. Movements start December 10.
Scunthorpe United defeated Halifax Town 1-0 in a Football Association Cup first round replay in London. The result advances Scunthorpe to the next round as Halifax exit the competition.

Nelson McCracken of Ottawa enters the Ontario Carleton federal by election on December 20 as a Social Credit hopeful. He joins George Drew and Dr. Eugene Forsey, with Liberal not opposing the new Conservative leader. Nominations close at 2 p.m. in Carleton.
In Fort William voters decide whether Charles W. Cox becomes mayor of this city and Port Artair for a record sixth consecutive year. He faces Hubert Badanai and Hubert M. Limbrick, former aldermen, as polls run from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Local campaign hints at a high turnout.
Final count shows 1,330,820 votes against Soviet occupation policies as Berliners in the western sectors cast ballots in a boycott plagued by threats. Social Democrats led with 858,100 votes or 64.5 percent, Christian Democrats 258,496 and Liberal Democrats 214,224. About 86.2 percent of the 1,586,090 eligible voters participated under Allied control while Russians did not vote. The result props up anti Communist Socialists amid continued occupation tensions.

Kennett Olsen a 45 year old grain buyer for Alberta Pacific Grain Co at Cardston died of a heart attack during a hunting trip in the Pincher Creek district. He set out at 6 am with James Toomer and LaMont Jensen. the pair separated and met again at 11 am when Olsen failed to appear. His hunting partners found him dead. he was native of Leavitt born 1907 and leaves a wife, two sisters, three brothers, and a seven year old son. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Cardston.
An inter provincial council of the Saskatchewan section of the United Farmers of Canada and the Alberta Farmers Union in Edmonton decided to ask the federal government to amend the Prairie Farmers Assistance Act to raise crop loss payments in line with higher grain prices.
A CP Rail passenger train struck the Pearce automobile half a mile north of Aldersyde Alta. William Storey Pearce and his four year old daughter Dolores died. Mrs Pearce and two sons Neil and Richard were hospitalized with serious injuries. The baby escaped with minor injuries. An inquest will be held at High River.
Ottawa officials said British Columbia established a prima facie case in its bid to remove the mountain differential freight rate. The Board of Transport Commissioners ordered railways to advance evidence in reply to the provincial submission.
