Leduc Utilities Chief Engineer Charged with Negligence
Charges of criminal negligence were laid against Leduc Utilities Ltd and chief engineer W J Gray after a five day inquest into the Remembrance Day Leduc hotel disaster in which ten people died when the hotel exploded and burned. The inquest found natural gas entered the basement via an uncapped pipe from the regulating station run by Leduc Utilities. The verdict urged stricter inspections and qualified gas inspectors, and noted possible incompetence in the installation work by Wilson and Wilson contractors. Gray was remanded to December 12 with bail set at $2000 after summonses were served.
