British Sink Hun Raider in South Atlantic
The British admiralty announced that a British warship sank an armed German merchant raider on November 22 in the South Atlantic. The Devonshire, a 9850 ton cruiser launched in 1927, fired on the raider after a smokescreen failed to hide it. within 10 minutes the raider was ablaze and sank after its crew abandoned ship and the magazine exploded. The Devonshire sustained no damage and picked no survivors due to a nearby German submarine.

Brother of Alberta's First Premier Dies in Ontario
James Rutherford Sr., 93, brother of Alberta's first premier, died Sunday in Blenheim Ontario. For over 30 years he served as town treasurer and was active in local welfare. A native of Scotland, he came with his family at age five and later retired. He survived by his widow and five children.
