The Quarterly Journal editor from Yale University reports that hard liquor consumption rose after the war mainly due to more drinkers, not higher per person use. Between 1940 and 1945 drinkers grew 85.8 percent while per capita consumption rose 4.5 percent. Chronic alcoholism rates hovered around 31 percent below 1910 levels by 1945, though total numbers increased with population. Jellinek suggests measuring per capita intake against drinking-age population.

Winnipeg police charge 22 year old man with double murder
Chief Constable Charles Maciver said Michael Angelo Vescio of Port Arthur, 22, has been charged with murder in the killings of 13 year old Roy McGregor and 13 year old George Smith.
