Above pictured is Flying Officer A F M Maclean of No 32 Service Flying Training School Medicine Hat who was killed near 11 pm Monday. A London native, he joined the RAF in 1937 and served as staff pilot at Irish bombing and gunnery schools before an instructor course at Central Flying School England in 1940. The first solo pupil at No 32 S F T S Medicine Hat flew under his guidance.

Budget tax changes and new levies across many sectors
The budget introduces a three cent per gallon gasoline excise, raises national defence and excess profits taxes, with a 40 percent minimum on corporate tax and new income tax brackets starting at 15 percent. Surtaxes on investment income rise, exemptions adjusted, sales tax exemptions cut, and numerous tariff and consumer taxes expanded.
