In Krestova British Columbia fifty Sons of Freedom darkhobors tried to march to Nelson across the Slocan river bridge. Provincial police blocked the approach fearing a larger protest. Nineteen were identified but no arrests. sixteen stripped in the crowd before dispersing.
The International Joint Commission will hold hearings in Shelby Montana June 10, Lethbridge June 12, and Medicine Hat June 13 to consider a US request for a division of waters from the Waterton and Belly rivers. The US seeks all water in the rivers as they cross the border into Canada.

Ottawa April 26 Agriculture Minister Gardiner announced new government support prices for butter. East shipments will be 53 cents a pound, west 52 cents, with the 53 cent rate applying to Saint John Halifax Montreal and Toronto and 52 cents to Vancouver. The 1950 price lowers from about 58 cents in 1949 and runs to April 30 1951. Beginning May 1 the government will requisition cheddar cheese in Ontario and Quebec to meet the Anglo Canadian 1920 contract for up to 85 million pounds. Butter holdings stood at 19,429,929 pounds at noon today. The government selling price will be reduced from about 69 cents to 63 or 64 cents per pound delivery in Ontario and Quebec with differingials to other points.
In Medicine Hat Alberta officials report the 1956 cotton growing experiment indoors under glass in city nurseries has reached about six inches. Seed from Texas started last year will be transplanted outdoors on May 15. The city backs the venture to prove a commercial cotton crop can be grown in Southern Alberta.

Vote totals were 20,367 to 20,074, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Labor MP Adam McKinley two weeks after his February win. McKinley had 20,398 votes to Allan’s 17,785 in February, with another Communist candidate polling 1,198. The Labor string of by election wins continues since 1945.
