New York Rangers announce a four for two trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Defencemen Elwyn Morris and Wally Stanowski move to New York in exchange for Bil Juzda Rene Trude and Cal Gardner plus an unnamed amateur. The deal reshapes both teams' defensive lines as of April 26.

Vernon BC April 26 A deadly blast at an army range left two 18 year olds Samuel Kashuba and Mike Chudyk dead and two others injured. A 13 year old Alec Chudyk was in serious condition and Mike Kashuba 15 had lesser injuries. Police believe the youths gathered discarded shells near an earth filled truck and that a mortar shell was struck with a hammer or chisel.
Mrs. Dale Dunn and her children are visiting the M Moulton home in Nobleford. Mr and Mrs Warde Bailey of Taber were in the district last week before departing for Jasper where Mr Bailey will work for the summer. Farmers await better weather as low-lying areas remain wet. general spring work unlikely for two weeks.
Mrs. Adam Ferguson aged 83 a pioneer woman of the district died Sunday night at her home. She and her husband were early residents of Upper Waldrond Ranch. Survived by two daughters and a son. Funeral set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St Andrew's Presbyterian church.
Toronto April 26 Veteran Affairs Minister Gregg said Canada should not manufacture oleomargarine now as it would worsen European hunger. He defended margarine as safe, noting his own wartime diet, and argued imports or domestic production would divert fats from Europe where hunger is dire.
Truro Nova Scotia April 26 Hemon Morton Aylsward 48 seriously wounded when shot in the head Thursday night was reported somewhat improved after an operation. RCMP hold 20 year old James Edward Doyle arraigned Saturday on a shooting with intent to murder charge. Preliminary hearing set for Saturday. Both men reside in Five Islands near Minas Basin. Aylsward reportedly shot while seated at his window.
The Cleveland firm Otis and Co. accuses Kaiser Frazer Corp of false statements in a proposed sale of 337 500 shares of common stock. Kaiser Frazer seeks 7 762 500 dollars in damages from Otis and Co in a February filed suit alleging repudiation of a contract to purchase new Kaiser stock.
MACRATH HNS The death occurred this Monday morning of Mrs. Myron Harker in her 64th year. Born in Utah she came to Magrath in the early days. She had been in failing health for about two years. Funeral arrangements are not completed.
Canadian National Railways officials report five freight cars derailed near Stettler, Alberta, after a journal fault and a broken axle caused the incident this morning. No injuries reported. Authorities investigate the derailment as service disruptions occur on the line.
