A vast manhunt unfolds as police soldiers and civilians pursue 18 of 28 German POWs who tunneled from a northwestern Ontario internment camp. Ten were recaptured with some back in camp under heavy guard, others still at large in the bush as officials warn the escape endangers the enclosure.
In Greece on April 19 British imperial forces said the front remained unpenetrated after repulsing a heavy Nazi attack by armored formations and infantry with severe losses. Thousands of prisoners were reported, as Axis pressure mounted along the entire front amid shifts in government talks following the Greek premier’s death.
Toronto reports nine of the group of German prisoners who escaped from a northwestern Ontario internment camp have been recaptured. Col H. B.
