Allied lines in Greece faced heavy German assaults on April 18 with up to 10 divisions and numerous planes hammering positions near Kalabaka and Mt Olympus. Greek forces on the Albanian border faced renewed pressure as German troops advanced, threatening a withdrawal from Albania.
Londoners faced the worst blitz of the war with stoic resolve as rescue workers, firefighters and civil defense teams labored amid debris and smoldering ruins. Two men and two women were recovered, seven of the trapped were found alive, and a dog lingered beside its master’s body. More bodies and injuries followed as the search continued nine hours after a shelter collapse.

Reuters dispatch from Yugoslavia reports the Belgrade onslaught may reach 12 000 tolls with observers noting severe damage. Early figures indicate 300 men fatally hurt in one barracks as Rotterdam and Warsaw ruins are recalled.
Berlin reports early today that the Yugoslav army has capitulated unconditionally and fighting ends on all fronts with surrender to be formalized. The claim cites German news agency dispatches and states negotiations occurred with Serb military authorities as the Yugoslav government is said not to exist.
London reports the British government will regard Yugoslavia as enemy-occupied territory for purposes of trading with the enemy and blockade. It is now a punishable offense to engage in commercial or financial dealings with anyone in Yugoslavia.
A walkout by 2000 workers at 8 Durham colliery was announced today over pay rates for coal cutters and conveyor men. The dispute centers on wage differentials and work conditions, impacting surface operations and coal output.
Between 26 and 40 Royal Air Force pilots, most seen action over Europe, are in Tacoma preparing to fly 19 four motor long range bombers to service overseas. The aircraft valued at 4 3/4 million dollars have been at McChord Field since January and three similar planes have already ferried to England. RAF crews, housed in Tacoma hotels, travel daily to McChord for instruction by U.S. air corps pilots and wear civilian clothes.

The air ministry announced RAF hit Berlin last night in retaliation for London's raid a day earlier. Eight planes were lost. Very powerful bombs caused substantial damage in the heart of the German capital. The Short Stirling bomber was used with a new high explosive type. Other raids targeted Rotterdam Cologne and other cities.
London April 12. St Paul’s Cathedral suffered its second air raid of the period. One bomb whistled through the dome, pierced the main auditorium floor, and exploded in the crypt. The dome bore a small hole while the main floor was ripped open leaving a deep gap and fallen stone in the crypt area.
British warships continue shelling Axis positions west of Salim Egypt, halting their western desert advance. Naval bombardment blasted long Axis transport columns while Axis air attacks repeatedly challenged the assault. Casualties were believed heavy on the Axis forces as shells struck the escarpment road west of Salum.
German forces on the Greek front have suffered enormous losses with estimates of dead reaching around 50,000 as fighting continues along the British defence line. The Associated Press report notes heavy casualties and ongoing combat as Greek and British forces resist the invasion.
German raids on Portsmouth on the south coast lasted hours from dark into daylight, but authorities reported light casualties and only limited damage. London endured two brief alarms with no bombs dropped. two German night raiders were shot down, totaling 65 destroyed by British defences over 13 nights. A church hall was struck by a high explosive during the attack, injuring one ARP warden. Continue on Page.
