Government tests AGT subsidiary Altel amid private firm complaints
Edmonton Alberta government review of AGT owned Altel Data and other subsidiaries argues private firms face unfair competition. Utilities minister Bob Bogle said the Alberta Government Telephones Commission will study Altel and report in six months with cabinet decisions to follow. Japanese pact trims BC coal prices and shipments
Two major East Kootenay coal producers BC Coal and Fording Coal reached a one year agreement with Japanese mills reducing contracted volume by about 10 percent and prices from 83.95 to 70.95 per long ton. The deal runs to March 31 1984 with an option to boost sales if conditions improve. BC Coal plans layoffs to balance the lower volume while maintaining competitiveness for a possible extension of the 15 year contracts into 1985.

Edmonton hostage suspect feared poisoning during 23 hour standoff
